Welcome to Get Rid of Lice. Here we discuss the best way to kill head lice, looking at both natural home remedies and popular treatments you can buy at the store.
If anyone in your family has an itchy scalp, you may be wondering how to kill lice. One of the first steps that you can take is getting (OTC) over-the-counter medication. This can be a shampoo, a lotion, or a cream rinse with medication. These products will usually kill head lice within a few days.
If you are using an OTC, be sure to follow the directions carefully. These have powerful insecticides in them and should only be used with caution. Read the label before you use it and make sure you are using
something that is age appropriate if you are putting it on your child. Children under 2 should not be treated with insecticide shampoos such as Nix.
Not everyone is able to kill lice with over the counter remedies. If these fail, you can always go to a doctor. Your doctor may be able to prescribe something more effective. The other option you can try to kill head lice is to try a natural, at-home remedy. For some people, these work even better than regular treatments. However, it is difficult to find one treatment that works for everyone. Some people are sensitive to chemicals and have no choice but to use natural treatments.
Here are a couple of home remedies you can try to kill head louse. Tea tree oil is one of the most popular
remedies. Don’t put it straight on the skin without diluting it first, though, because that will cause irritation. Instead, add 10-20 drops to the shampoo and rub it into your scalp or your child’s. Then let it sit for around 10 minutes before rinsing it out. You can also use essential oils to help get rid of lice. Three popular ones are oregano, cinnamon leaf, and lavender. Dilute one of these or a combination of them in carrier oil before rubbing it onto the scalp. Like the tea tree oil, let it sit for awhile before rinsing it out.
No matter how you kill lice, you’ll need a good comb. Be sure you get one with fine teeth that is specifically made to remove nits, or lice eggs. To effectively use the comb, wet the hair and condition it before combing. That makes it easier to do. You should do this every couple of days even after you no longer see live lice, because you don’t want new eggs hatching and the cycle repeating. Keep combing the hair for about two weeks after the problem seems solved.
Unfortunately there isn’t a 100% effective way of how to kill lice. While the methods listed on this page are the most popular ones, they aren’t the only way. Though it may take some time, you should be able to find a solution that works well for you and your family.
